Living in the suburbs of Langley B.C. it would be a stretch, to say that I live a "country lifestyle" in any way. While I enjoy living close to all kinds of modern conveniences, I also really love being surrounded by agriculture. There are so many amazing farms all around where I live! I like joke and call myself a "wanna-be farmer" because I have so much respect and admiration for all the care and hard work that goes into running any type of farm. A newly discovered local favourite of mine, is Central Park Farms located just 10 minutes away from my home, in South Langley. The name was chosen because the beautiful property, is surrounded by Campbell Valley Regional Park. I had the pleasure of meeting Kendall, the owner of Central Park Farms, who welcomed us to visit and enjoy a little country celebration at her farm. Kendall and her family specialize in raising and selling their non-GMO fed, free range chicken, farm-fresh eggs, pasture raised pork, and grass-fed beef. All of their meat is free of antibiotics and hormones. They use sustainable farming practices and take great care, in making sure their animals are raised right. I find all of these things SO important and beneficial to the community. I would describe Kendall, as a very outgoing and friendly "people person" who is rightfully, a very proud farmer and so passionate about what she does. Central Park Farms hosts all kinds of events including weddings, workshops and long table dinners. If you visit their website, you can sign up for their email list, to stay in loop about their upcoming events. My husband and I attended their long table dinner last night and it was amazing! Delicious farm to table food prepared by a local chef, lawn games, great company, pretty decor and a wonderful band. Our tickets also included local beer and wine. What more could you want in an evening out!?
I wanted to create a dessert table that represented the beautiful setting of the farm, with a touch of luxury and glam. Since they pride themselves on the chickens they raise at Central Park Farms, I included some sugar cookie chicks and tasty pavlova nests that looked like farm fresh eggs. The pavlova nests were made with love by my friend Janice from The White Oven and filled with zesty lemon curd. I ended up using some fresh berries to top them off! I worked with several local businesses making this sweet table including a delicious assortment and some of the best macarons I've ever tasted from Kitchening & Co. They have all kinds of unique flavours and I loved the hand painted cherry blossoms on their orange blossom macarons with tart pieces of cherries inside for Spring. Their macarons are handmade with care and they come up with different types of fun flavours throughout the year, incorporating seasonal fruits. So good!
Janice White of The White Oven also made the delicious matcha and lavender flavoured profiteroles for the table. She is seriously so sweet and a very talented pastry chef. Funny enough, we bumped into each other at a relatives 95th Birthday party recently and discovered that we are actually related! White was my Grandmother's maiden name but it never occurred to me that we could be relatives! Small world! I love incorporating bakers who put so much love into what they make! The gorgeous flower wall that we used for the backdrop is from Flower Wall Vancouver. They offer a variety of flower walls to rent and this "Blush" wall was the perfect accent piece that complemented the colours and flowers used on the table perfectly. I think this style of floral wall is really timeless and versatile to be used in so many different ways for an event. Cassandra of Stumbling Grace blog came to take part in the fun and this beautiful expecting mama is not only photogenic but she also has a lovely blog with some great local resources and product recommendations as well as all kinds of goodness, so be sure to check out her blog at stumblinggrace.com Cassandra's latest post includes her "Ultimate Summer Bucket List" with some ideas for fun family actives to enjoy.
Pretty country style flowers were from Maple Ridge Florist. Shelli, the owner of Maple Ridge Florist created the perfect floral arrangements fit for a country celebration, including some stunning peonies, roses, hydrangeas, foxgloves and blue mascari to name a few. I loved that the flowers looked as though they were picked from the wild. ( If you happened to find some stunning secret garden or field of flowers in nature.) I adore these fresh cut blooms so much, I could really go on about them all day. These beauties really smelled as nice as they looked!
When I chose to go with a pastel colour story, I knew right away that cotton candy would fit in perfectly! The best cotton candy award goes to... Kristen from Soul Sugar Co.! She comes up with such inventive flavours and has several options to fit in perfectly with all kinds of different party themes. For this sweet table we used the flavours, lala lavender, unicorn fluff and mermaid magic. Soul Sugar cotton candy is a fun treat option for your next event and it also happenes to be vegan and gluten free!
As always, I got my paper plates and napkins from my favourite party store Paper & Parties. They have a great selection of trendy party ware and they also specialize in custom balloon orders. The other beautiful model in these photos, is Rosemary of Rosemary LeBarge Creative Studio She is co-owner of the party shop Paper & Parties and is a proud supporter of local, small businesses. Rosie is a graphic designer and photographer, who is amazing with content creation, styling and branding. She also happens to be a business bestie of mine and has helped me immensely with a number of these things. Rosemary LeBarge has a way of very kindly, breaking things down and making it understandable as well as achievable, for non-techie people, like myself. Photographed below are these gorgeous ladies enjoying some of my popular gluten-free cake pops.
Lastly, I want to give a special thanks to Kristy of Kristy Drake Photography for coming out to the farm and photographing our country celebration. Kristy specializes in commercial branding, content and promotional photography. She is very friendly, down to earth and comfortable to work with. It's an honour to get to collaborate with a group of such creative and talented ladies!
