Yes Way, Rosé Galentines

I love all things “Love” so, it may come as bit of a surprise, that I’m not a big fan of Valentines Day. I know, I might be a bit of a "Debbie Downer" for saying it but I’m sure that I’m not the only one! Something about people feeling obligated to make loving gestures because of a designated day, puts me off. Have you witnessed someone buying a sad looking, odourless and artificially coloured bouquet at the grocery store, because they don’t want to go home empty handed? Noticed all the stores fully stocked, with an assortment of low quality chocolates and cheesy, stuffed animals holding hearts?? Then you might understand my sentiments. In my opinion, it can be more of a day with “love expectations.” Of course, this is just my opinion and if you're sentimental about Valentines and it's a special day for you, then that is wonderful! After being married for 11 years, my husband and I both feel that we don't need to have a special day, to show each other love or get out for a date night. We like to make time for each other and do those kind of things on a regular basis.

Then I discovered the other half of Valentines Day. February 13th, also referred to as “Galentines Day.” A day when you celebrate your love for your lady friends and it doesn't matter, whether you're single or not! Now this, was something I could get into! As a busy Mom, I’m always looking for an excuse to have a ladies night or to get out and enjoy good times with my girls. Spending time with girlfriends is right up there with “me time” and self care for me. Of course, ladies nights usually include wine so, even better! If you don’t know me, then you should know that I’m a huge lover of local wine. Living so close to the Okanagan, we have a bit of a wine country, right in our backyard. There are several wineries opening up right here in my city.

What better place for a Galentines celebration, than a winery!? The Glass House Estate Winery, is local and family run. (Not to mention, a beautiful venue for all kinds of celebrations!) With the lovely ladies from Girls Supporting Grapes, we enjoyed the two types of delicious Rosé that Glass House has to offer. Their ROSE DES PINOTS is a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It's a fun, festive and delightfully refreshing estate grown Rosé that offers delicious aromas and flavours of ripe strawberries, raspberries, candied cherries and orange creamsicle. Yum! The other is a gorgeous, ruby coloured Cameo Rosé that is crafted with a blend of their Tempranillo and estate whites. When it comes to picking a favourite, I really can’t decide which one I love more! It’s hard job trying to choose but I guess someones gotta do it! We had such a good time tasting and learning directly from the family behind the wine. I would highly recommend visiting their winery and tasting room, located in South Langley, British Columbia.

I created a sweet table with an assortment of treats and styled it to go along with the “Rosé All Day” vibe. I always love incorporating some super cute party ware and balloon decorations from my favourite party shop, Paper and Parties. We indulged in chocolate covered strawberries, as well as my custom sugar cookies, and cupcakes. I included another talented local baker who made two types of macarons for us. The heart macarons were a rose flavour that Janice of The White Oven, made using rose petals and rose water (the taste of luxury) X’s and O’s were raspberry macarons with a white chocolate ganache. Delectable! I also included some Rosé gummies from Sugarfina. Their “Yes Way, Rosé” candy bento box fit in perfectly with the theme.

The ultimate eye candy were the gorgeous florals from November Blooms. Gloria is an amazing local florist who created the stunning flower arrangements to top everything off. Pretty and fragrant fresh flowers, are one of my absolute favourite things. Talk about the ultimate indulgence! Beautiful blooms, tasty treats, delicious Rosé and the sweetest girls to enjoy it all with. You don’t need to go over the top to show your girlfriends some love this Galentines but it can be so fun, if you choose to! I think we all need to treat ourselves more. Whether it’s a relaxing bubble bath with some peace and quiet or a dance party with your favourite ladies. I hope this inspires you, to find the best way to show some love to yourself and others, so that it doesn’t feel forced but exciting and lots of fun instead!

Welcome to The Sweet Spot

Welcome to The Sweet Spot! This is a place for authenticity, inspiration, creativity and encouragement. All these things and so much more!

My name is Candace (or Candy for short) and I have lived a very full life so far, in my 31 years on this planet. Through travelling, living in different places and meeting all kinds of people, I’ve gained a unique perspective. While never staying in the same place for very long, used to make me feel like an outsider, it’s something I embrace now that I am practicing self love and acceptance. I feel that this is the time for me to share my story and inspire other women and mothers along the way.

I have been passionate about supporting local, small businesses for several years now and will be featuring some of my favourite local brands as well as the people and stories behind these great products. About a year and a half ago, I started my own little business that was really, a creative outlet for me.  After being a stay at home mom for 9 years, I was feeling like I had lost myself in being a wife and mother. I realized that I had never really known myself in the first place. Having my first baby at twenty years old was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was completely ready to be a Mom and “Mom life” will always be the most important part of my life. When I stopped to think about who I was outside of being a mom, I knew that’s where I needed to find some answers.

It’s been quite a roller coaster ride, since starting down the track of entrepreneurship. I’ve learned so much and it’s one of the things I continue to find so exciting, is the learning part. Learning is never ending really, so why not love that part of the journey? What started out as a little “love project” has grown into so much more. I’ve met and connected with so many inspiring women in business and fellow “mompreneurs.” I’ll be sharing all kinds of inspiration here with you. Everything from recipes and DIY’s to entertaining and party planning tips! My goal is for each person that reads my blog to feel empowered to incorporate creativity into their life, in some kind of way.

Today, I feel like I am a better wife and mother because I am connected to my creativity. Each day, I practice gratitude (even when I don’t feel like it!) I’ve learned that self-care and compassion are some of the most important things we need as women and mothers. When we are making ourselves a priority, it over flows into our business and relationships. I’ve shifted from the mind set that self-love is selfish, to realizing that the best way I can show love to others, is by loving myself first. I do this by trusting my instincts and choosing to do what feels right for me.

The Sweet Spot is a place that I’ve just recently discovered. It’s a metaphor, for how I feel when I'm being mindful, connected to myself and my creativity. I’m in the Sweet Spot when I’m showing love and kindness to myself and others. It is also, all my favourite local spots, where I spend time with my family and friends. This includes my most loved shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as the best places I’ve found for family activities and outings with my kids. Can’t wait to share all of these sweet things with you!
